Category talk:Prototypes
I'm guessing "prototypes, of whatever sort" doesn't include the LEGO company's preliminary versions of sets? BuilderQ 10:15, 6 August 2005 (Eastern Daylight Time)
- This category uses the scale modellers' definition of "prototype". Maybe there should be a category/article for preliminary versions of LEGO sets - but what should it be called to distinguish the two? SpaceCaptain 15:35, February 4, 2006 (Eastern Standard Time)
- Good point. Perhaps the category should cover both. Tim 16:05, 4 February 2006 (Eastern Standard Time)
Either that or there should be two categories, one for set prototypes and one for real life protos. But what are we going to say about set protos that's encyclopedic? could someone throw together an example article about some set that includes set prototype info so we can see how it would read? Maybe one of the batman sets? or a train set that came out in prototype form before final release? or stuff from last years toy fair (mine my brickshelf account for pics, there are some pics there of boxes that were NOT in final form)... ?? ++Lar: t/c 18:05, February 4, 2006 (Eastern Standard Time)
Useful? Delete?
Do we really need a whole category and articles about real-life things people can build? In the age of Google it seems rather pointless to collect pictures and links of this sort. One article on the two different uses of the word should be more than sufficient. I move that this category and all associated articles (except prototype) be deleted.Tedward 15:45, 24 September 2009 (EDT)
- I have placed a warning on the main page. Without any objections I will proceed to delete articles and the category as above. Tedward 17:01, 4 December 2009 (EST)
- This goes back to very early days of the wiki I think. It may be obsolete. But on the other hand, consider Prototype trains (Germany) ... strikes me that is good information, not easily found with Google unless you're very good iwth searching. I'm not sure I see the need to delete stuff like that, but won't stand in the way if that's the consensus. I vote keep. ++Lar: t/c 20:45, 4 December 2009 (EST)
- I don't think we need the category (and as such, I vote delete), but also acknowledge that prototype articles (and Prototype trains (Germany) may be a case in point) may be useful. Claude Bombarde 23:20, 6 December 2009 (EST)
- I see no reason to delete a good, useful article. The article above can stay in the Train category while we delete the cat:proto. Tedward 14:20, 7 December 2009 (EST)
- Yes. That seems to be the best course of action. Claude Bombarde 18:03, 7 December 2009 (EST)
- I see no reason to delete a good, useful article. The article above can stay in the Train category while we delete the cat:proto. Tedward 14:20, 7 December 2009 (EST)
Yes, I think we should move the Prototype trains (Germany) into trains and delete the rest. --Thomasbozeman 00:28, 20 March 2010 (EDT)
- It appears to be in category:Trains already. If someone wanted to move all the articles to the proper new categories I would have no problem with deleting the category itself. ++Lar: t/c 12:43, 20 March 2010 (EDT)
