Brick (prefix)
From Brickwiki
For other uses, see Brick (disambiguation).
Used as a prefix, brick is often a substitute for the term LEGO, wherever the use of the latter might be in violation of trademark law. It is a shortened form of "Plastic Building Bricks", or PBB, which is the generic term for all such toys similar to LEGO, especially those with properties like the stud and tube design.

History
ALEs began using brick as a prefix in the 1990's when the LEGO company issued warnings and made legal requests regarding the use of the term LEGO in internet domains and other titles. Within a few years, brick as a prefix proliferated, and now is used as a designator for any of a number of ideas associated with the hobby.
